  Herbal Joint Pain Relief
(Anjelica-16)

60 tablets, 750 mg

History
Herbal Joint Pain Relief is based on the traditional Chinese formula Du Huo Ji Sheng Tang, created by Master Sun Si-Miao in 652 A.D.

Formula Philosophy by Christopher Hobbs, L.Ac., A.H.G.
Secara's Chief Herbalist, Christopher Hobbs, L.Ac. A.H.G., one of the world's leading herbalists, has based Herbal Joint Pain Relief Angelica-16 on a time-honored Chinese formula used for joint pain relief. To enhance this traditional formula, Christopher has added Boswellia standardized extract.

Boswellia has been used for centuries in Asia for its anti-inflammatory properties, especially in the Ayurvedic tradition. The active ingredients in Boswellia are identified as boswellic acids, which reduce inflammation in several ways: they deter inflammatory white cells from infiltrating damaged tissue (block leukotrienes), they improve blood flow to the joints, and they block chemical reactions that set the stage for inflammation to occur in chronic intestinal disorders. The blockade of leukotrienes is important. Leukotrienes cause inflammation by promoting free radical damage, calcium dislocation, autoimmune responses, cell adhesion and the migration of inflammation-producing cells to the inflamed body area. Boswella inhibits inflammation by blocking the synthesis of leukotrienes.

Supporting Clinical Research for Boswellia:
Efficacy and tolerability of Boswellia serrata extract in treatment of osteoarthritis of knee--a randomized double blind placebo controlled trial. Phytomedicine. 2003 Jan;10(1):3-7. CONCLUSION: Boswellia serrata extract is recommended in the patients of osteoarthritis of the knee with possible therapeutic use in other arthritis due to the statistically significant decrease in pain over placebo.

Treatment of osteoarthritis with a herbomineral formulation: a double-blind, placebo-controlled, cross-over study. J Ethnopharmacol. 1991 May-Jun;33(1-2):91-5. CONCLUSION: Treatment with the Boswellia formulation produced a significant drop in severity of pain (P less than 0.001) and disability score (P less than 0.05) in osteoarthritis patients.

Modifying Herbs

Boswellia: Boswellia is also known as "Indian Frankincense". For centuries, traditional Indian healers have taken advantage of its anti-inflammatory properties.

Boswellia has a taste of SPICY, slightly ACRID, and FRAGRANT, and a temperature or WARM.

Research has identified that boswellic acids reduce inflammation in several ways: they deter inflammatory white cells from infiltrating damaged tissue, they improve blood flow to the joints, and they block chemical reactions that set the stage for inflammation to occur in chronic intestinal disorders.

Specifically, Boswellia can be used for pain associated with arthritis, to relieve low back and sports injury pain, and to control certain inflammatory bowel diseases like Chrohn's and Colitis.

Pregnant women or patients with compromised immune systems should consult their health-care practitioner before taking Boswellia. There are no known drug or herb interactions for Boswellia.
