Modifying Herbs

Milk Thistle: Healers have used Milk Thistle to treat liver ailments for more than 2,000 years.

Milk Thistle has a taste of BITTER, SWEET and a temperature of COOL.

Hundreds of preliminary studies and a few positive clinical trials have substantiated the fact that Milk Thistle protects and heals the liver by stimulating the growth of new liver cells and protecting the hepatocyte membrane from destabilization by toxic compounds. Milk Thistle supports the body's production of glutathione, an amino-acid like compound that enhances liver regeneration after exposure to toxins. The herb is widely utilized by medical doctors in Europe to treat a variety of liver disorders including hepatitis, cirrhosis and jaundice. A potent anti-oxidant, Milk Thistle helps prevent free radicals from damaging cells throughout the body.

Specifically, Milk Thistle can be used to treat acute and chronic liver disease, treat alcohol related liver problems and control psoriasis.

Although no studies have been performed to demonstrate a connection, theoretically patients with cancer, particularly liver cancer should not take Milk Thistle because of its cell-proliferant qualities.
