Christopher Hobbs, L.Ac., Secara's Chief Herbalist, has specifically formulated each Secara herbal product for clinical use according to the classic Chinese formulas. In some instances, because of the enhancements Chris has made with select modifying herbs, the use of Secara's formulas may be broader because of the symptomatic applications of many of these herbs. Secara's formula guides provide citations to relevant research, and additional detail on the traditional use, active constituents, clinical applications, and cautions associated with each modifying herb.

As with all medicine, whether herbal or pharmaceutical, appropriate caution, and coordination among health care practitioners should be used, particularly with patients who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
