Modifying Herbs
American Ginseng: Native Americans
used American Ginseng to treat digestive disorders,
sexual dysfunction, and to enhance the immune
system.
American Ginseng has a taste of SWEET, BITTER
and a temperature of WARM.
American Ginseng is an adaptogen and digestive
tonic. Its active ingredients are ginsenosides,
which stimulate the immune system. In Chinese
medicine it is considered a superior "yin
tonic". While not a direct stimulant, American
Ginseng boosts energy and fights fatigue, depression
and general weakness due to overwork and stress.
It balances hormones and protects the adrenals.
There are no notable cautions or known herb drug
interactions for American Ginseng.

Ginseng, click on the PubMed links listed below:

and time escalation.

process.
Gingko: The nut of the Ginkgo
tree has long been used in traditional Chinese
medicine, but it is only in the last 25 years
that the medicinal uses for Gingko leaf extracts
have been studied in the west.
Gingko has a taste of BITTER, SOUR and ASTRINGENT
and a temperature of COOL.
Studies indicate that Ginkgo has beneficial effects
on the circulatory and central nervous systems.
It also acts as an anti-oxidant and anti-allergic
herb by inhibiting platelet activating factors.
By regulating the tone and elasticity of blood
vessels, Ginkgo increases blood flow to the brain
and extremities and promotes the delivery of additional
oxygen and blood sugar to nerve cells. As an anti-oxidant,
Ginkgo mops up the damaging compounds known as
free radicals and aids in cell maintenance.
Specifically, Ginkgo is used clinically today
to help to improve memory, relieve depression,
anxiety, ringing in the ears and dizziness, reduce
macular degeneration and control cataracts, treat
complications due to diabetes, counter impotence,
reduce the risk of heart attack or stroke, ease
asthmatic attacks, and optimize brain function.
Positive clinical trials show benefits especially
for dementia of the elderly, and intermittent
claudication.
Taking large doses of Ginkgo standardized extracts
may cause headaches or mild nausea in susceptible
individuals. Ginkgo extract may mildly affect
blood coagulation, so it is best to use with caution
for people taking blood-thinners or perioperatively.
